Before and After the Summer of Love

Doodling another motorcycle in 1970.
Loved motorcycles. Drawing them. Riding them.
~

I think I did this in elementary school, or 7th grade.
Loved math, geometry, patterns.
~

More patterns.
~

I used to love to draw leafless trees.
Thought I was REAL good.
~

A Valentine (I think in 7th or 8th grade).
More patterns.
~

7th grade art project. Teacher gave me a C.
I thought it was quite impressionistic.
~
6th grade art? Loved the hot red sun.

Awesome Dad! You are such a neat guy. Those geometric patterns are so impressive...were those school projects or doodling? The trees are totally amazing! Scott says those handlebars look a little high. And you found the third Motorcycle for the series! Perfect! I can add it to our wall! Cool Dad! Love you!

You are so sweet. We love you. a.) The geometric patterns were prompted by an assignment. Thanks on the trees! Scott is funny re: the handlebars. (It is a private joke, as we have a disagreement as to the awesomeness, or rather, lameness of high handlebars.) However, this is most assuredly not the third of the series of motorcyles. This one is only an off-hand doodle. Not bad for a doodle. (The missing motorcycle IS in a box somewhere. I just cannot put my hands on it... and it is driving me to distraction that I cannot pull it out of one of the few boxes it can possibly be in. Grrrr.) Thanks for complimenting me on the trees. They are better than the 'pitcher' I drew when you used to go with me to college; Cal State Fullerton. I took an art course my very last semester. Nauvoo Temple, and others things came out of it. You used to come to class and sit quietly under the tall art stand/desk. This would late 1979, just as Sydney was about to be born. Just after the car accident your mother and I had, and just after my appendectomy. It was a busy few weeks.

You also used to come with me to the Sunday School classes I taught in West Covina. I taught one of the teenage Sunday School classes for 2-3 years in a row, moving up with the bishop's and stake president's kids, etc. Jaeger, Beatse, Demke, Pyper, etc. The other year I taught the Marriage and Family Relations class. You came to that too. Sat in the middle of the room and never made a peep. Of course, the times you came with me to the youth Sunday School classes, the girls held you. Lots. Remember, you were not only very well behanved, you were VERY cute. Very.

The Steward, By Carol Lynn Pearson

http://www.amazon.com/Beginnings-Beyond-Carol-Lynn-Pearson/dp/1599558602 The Steward ~ a poem by Carol Lynn Pearson, from her book, Beginnings and Beyond Heber looked at his lands And he was pleased. He’d be leaving them, tomorrow, and his hands Hurt with anticipated idleness. But he knew there was no other way When a man is seventy-eight and has to make Two rest stops with a full bucket of milk Between the barn and the kitchen. Condominiums-do they have gardens? He wondered. His son had arranged the place for them in town And he was ready. He sat down On the rock that knew his body Better than the front room chair. Could it really be fifty-five years ago That sitting right there They had talked? His father’s voice had never left him: “Heber, I’m trusting to you The most precious thing I’ve got. I worked hard for this land. You know all about The crickets and the Indians and the drought, And the buckets of sweat it took To make what you see ...

Family History and Temple Work (including, Nauvoo Temple experience)

Family History and Temple Worship Scott L. Vanatter, May 18, 2014, Chantilly Ward #A1. PERSONAL EXPERIENCE As a convert, Nauvoo the city Joseph Smith founded and named in 1839, has always held a special place in my mind and heart. I have been fascinated and inspired by Nauvoo -- the name, its Hebrew meaning, even its sound, its history, and more importantly, the doctrine revealed there -- the ultimate in Mormon theology. The ennobling doctrine that we can be sealed to our loved ones in the Temple as part of God’s whole family in heaven. ##1 Sacred Experience (Nauvoo Temple) We were fortunate to be able to serve as patrons in the Nauvoo Temple the very first week it opened in 2002. I had several Vanatter family names with me so we could do all aspects of temple ordinances, from baptisms for the dead, confirmations, and ordinations, to initiatory, endowment, and sealings -- sealings of spouses, and sealing of children to parents. Actually, it was my mother and one of my sist...

Each of these author/presenters includes a powerful and unique perspective comprising the separate chapters of the book. "Chiasmus, once assumed to be only an ancient Hebraic literary pattern, can be shown to provide a pattern in all things. It has been identifie...
