POEM: Mothers of Eve, Expansion

Mothers of Eve, Expansion  By Scott L. Vanatter, May 8, 2016, Mother’s DayPoem for Carrie and Sydney -- and their Mother. (Original minimalist version written November 15-17, 2015.) Like their Mother: Three Agencies INHERENT  Deep within each of them exits their very own, individual Inherent Agency.    Since time immemorial they have possessed this power.   It propels them on. Choosing. Acting. Becoming.    Because they exist, it is there. It was always there. It is always there. It will always be there.     This uncovered power reveals their very own personal eternal yearning.      Yearning for good, for improvement, for progression. (Having been Prepared from Eternity, they are now Fulfilling their Destiny, and Forging their Eternal Identity. // Chosen they are. They act with real Intent. Freely they Consent to eternal verities. In Descending to Earth, they Ascend to Heaven. Having been Sent, they prepare and send ...

Moments of Vision

Growing Up I saw unconditional love, all my life. I knew my parents loved me. Never doubted; never. Loving Becky I could feel something deep within; something new and real -- when I spoke the words to my sweetheart, “I love you.” Overwhelming; shockingly overwhelming. And I meant it. My whole soul was enlivened with true, heaven-yearning emotion. Becoming Aware of Eternal Things I knew it was the right thing to do -- when I prayed and spoke with Him about the restored Gospel. I should join. As I knelt, I already knew what the answer was. Overwhelming rightness. Peace. Go forth. In a moment, I became awakened to the implications of Joseph’s mission. I intuited the reality of his mission and of his vision; that his enemies, and those who would tear him down, that the answer would always be, He was God’s Prophet. No matter what; no matter what was said against him, or about him. I knew. Looking to the Temple with Becky I knew in my heart and in my mind what I should do, as I knelt to ask ...

Music at Dad's Funeral

Peace In The Valley Elvis Presley (Thomas Dorsey) Oh well, I'm tired and so weary But I must go alone Till the lord comes and calls, calls me away, oh yes Well the morning's so bright And the lamp is alight And the night, night is as black as the sea, oh yes There will be peace in the valley for me, some day There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I pray There'll be no sadness, no sorrow No trouble, trouble I see There will be peace in the valley for me, for me Well the bear will be gentle And the wolves will be tame And the lion shall lay down by the lamb, oh yes And the beasts from the wild Shall be lit by a child And I'll be changed, changed from this creature that I am, oh yes There will be peace in the valley for me, some day There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I pray There'll be no sadness, no sorrow No trouble, trouble I see There will be peace in the valley for me, for me # The Church in the Wildwood The Jordonaires (Words & Music...

Each Kiss - And This Kiss

“Forty years since our first kiss it’s been . . .” I. First (Summer and Fall of 1967, then many months later…) My arm around your shoulder . . . fresh and cool and new. Quick and sweet - though, it took an eternity to get to you. II. Best (Spring of 1970, then a few weeks later…) My arm around your shoulder - again . . . whole and serene and calm. Long and pure - this dreamlike kiss lingers on. Time and our hearts stand still. Walking away; down the street, Floating. Just off the ground, I walk along. Can’t hear. Can barely breathe; don’t care. Hearts swelled; hearts warm. Numb with feeling; lips still tingling. Touch my finger to my lips; checking this is real (and remembering). It is; it is no dream. Can never forget; it's never far from my sweetest thoughts. Even today. Even now. III. Sweetest (Senior Year, 1971-1972) The day, the night, the moment I purpose to tell you With all my heart I love you, With my whole trembling soul, My voice breaks My voice ...

"Isn't She Lovely . . . " (Part 2)

This entry is related to one on Carrie's blog where she posted a couple of cute pics of herself as a young gal. I said I would put up a couple of even cuter ones. So, here they are; plus one of Sydney for good measure. (Carrie and Sydney from the 80s.) We have, of course, many more such cute pictures. Carrie spent some time during her vacation this summer to Virginia with The Boys organizing our pictures from the various places of storage. Thanks Carrie. Now Becky and I can get to more of the pictures to sift and sort for the nuggests. (Picture of Carrie in the late 70s.)
